What is Speak Up Week?

Welcome to Speak Up Week, 3 – 7 October 2022

‘Speak Up Week’ is a brand-new campaign, aimed at highlighting the benefits of speaking up and the difference it can make within the NHS in Scotland. Importantly, it is also a fantastic way to raise awareness about our local arrangements for speaking up and to promote the role of Confidential Contacts who are doing important work to support and advise whistleblowers.

Keep a look out for information being shared through the daily brief and social media during Speak Up Week and find out more on this page by clicking on each day to catch up on everything that is taking place, including on Thursday 6 October between 3- 4pm, The Independent National Whistleblowing Officer team (INWO) will be hosting an online panel discussion, on the theme of building trust and transparency. This will be hosted by Niki McLean, the Director of the SPSO, with speakers from Healthcare Improvement Scotland, SSE (previously Scottish and Southern Energy) and the Civil Aviation Authority. This panel discussion will offer other perspectives on how we can build trust and transparency in the NHS, to enable people to speak up. To register for this live event please email INWO@spso.gov.scot. Please note that spaces are limited.

We hope you enjoy Speak Up Week 2022 and are able to identify opportunities to promote activities and events in your areas of work.

You will also find much more about Speak Up Week, including a range of additional information and resources by visiting the Independent Whistle Blowing Officer (IWBO) website.
